Our ‘mini holiday’ came to an end and it was time to get on the road again.\u00a0 We were going to head to an Aire just north of Alicante but I thought I would have a look on Search4Sites to see what else was around.\u00a0 I found a car park right on the beach to the South that had really good reviews, so we thought we would head there.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

There were a few other vans there when we arrived but we were lucky as there was still a space at the front looking straight out to sea.\u00a0<\/p>

The beach seemed to stretch for miles in both directions.\u00a0 It was quite near to Alicante airport and you could hear the planes coming into land.\u00a0 although there weren’t that many so it didn’t really make a lot of difference,<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

We went for a walk along the promenade to see what restaurants there were, but there was only one open, a restaurant called Moments.\u00a0 So we stopped and had dinner.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

The next morning I awoke early enough, well 8am, to see the sun rise over the ocean.\u00a0 What a sight!\u00a0 We then spent a lazy day on the beach.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

You could see the town of Alicante from where we were parked so we unloaded the bikes and set off to explore.\u00a0 The first part of the cycle was a bit unnerving as it was along the road but we soon spotted the cycle path that took us all the way into town.\u00a0 Through the centre there was a walkway with the largest nativity scence we have ever seen.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

We had a very nice lunch here, walked round to the beach, decided not to visit the castle as it was up a really steep hill, then headed back to Wike, via a supermarket.\u00a0 We had only planned to stay a night or two but ended up staying three so were running low on food.\u00a0 It is a real shame the restaurants were closed as we would have liked to have eaten out, but two meals in Moments was enough.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We finally dragged ourselves away from the beach and headed inland to Murcia.\u00a0 The Aire we had picked was in the middle of a lemon grove.\u00a0 This was a really nice Aire with the best showers we have found so far.\u00a0 They even had a bread van that came round in the morning so we didn’t even have to go anywhere to get our breakfast.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The other reason for coming here was that there was a dedicated cycle route from the village into Murcia.\u00a0 So the next morning we lifted off the bikes and headed into the city to see the Catedral de Murcia.<\/a><\/p>

The cycle was around 8km and completely off road.\u00a0 Even in the city there was a separate path sectioned off from the main road.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We cycled around the city stopping to see a Christmas market on the way.\u00a0 We had lunch at El Secreto in Plaza de las Flores before heading for the Cathedral.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

It is a pretty impressive building.\u00a0 The detail in the building is incredible it makes you wonder how they build it.\u00a0 There was also a man playing music which added to the atmosphere.\u00a0 This really is a special place.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
